How to get your business mentioned by ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity

To get your business mentioned by ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, you need three things: clear pages that state exactly what you do and where, consistent listings on the sources these tools read, and content that answers real customer questions. AI assistants do not rank websites the way Google does; they look for businesses they can describe confidently and recommend without risk.
This guide explains how the main AI assistants choose which businesses to mention, what they read, and a practical checklist for a business in Dubai or Lebanon that wants to appear in those answers.
How AI assistants decide who to recommend
When someone asks "best social media agency in Dubai" or "a clinic in Jumeirah that does laser hair removal", the assistant does not have a list of businesses ranked by authority. It does two things. First, it draws on what it already learned during training: businesses that were described clearly and consistently across many pages. Second, for current answers, it runs a live web search (ChatGPT uses Bing, Gemini uses Google, Perplexity uses its own index) and reads the top results, then summarises them.
That means a business appears in the answer when it meets both conditions: it is easy to find for the question being asked, and the page it is found on makes it easy to describe. A page that says "we create unforgettable experiences" gives the assistant nothing to work with. A page that says "social media agency in Dubai for restaurants, clinics and real estate; content, 24/7 AI replies on WhatsApp and Instagram; serving the UAE and Lebanon" can be quoted almost word for word.
What ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity actually read
Your website. Service pages, FAQ sections and articles. Plain language, one clear H1 per page and a short "in short" summary at the top make a difference.
Google Business Profile and Bing Places. Gemini and Google's AI Overviews lean heavily on Google Business Profile; ChatGPT search runs on Bing, so Bing Places matters more than most people think.
Directories and listicles. Clutch, GoodFirms, Sortlist, DesignRush and "top 10 agencies in Dubai" articles. When an assistant is asked for the "best" of anything, it often summarises these lists.
Reviews. Google reviews, and for some sectors Trustpilot or Tripadvisor. Review text is where the assistant learns what you are actually good at.
LinkedIn and social profiles. Used to confirm the business is real, where it is based and who runs it.
Structured data (schema.org). Machine-readable facts: business type, location, services, FAQs, opening hours. It is the cleanest way to state the facts you want repeated.
Seven steps to get mentioned
Say what you do in one sentence, everywhere. The same description on your home page, Google Business Profile, LinkedIn, Instagram bio and directory listings. Include the city and the sector. Inconsistency is the most common reason an assistant hesitates to recommend a business.
Build one page per service and per location. "Social media agency in Dubai", "AI employee for WhatsApp in Dubai", "Social media for brands in Lebanon". Each page should be able to answer the question on its own.
Add FAQs that match real questions. Write the question the way a customer would type it ("Do you work with restaurants?", "Can the chatbot reply in Arabic?") and answer in two or three sentences. Mark them up with FAQPage schema so the questions are explicit.
Claim and complete Google Business Profile and Bing Places. Category, services, description, hours, photos. Keep the name and phone number identical to the website.
Get listed where the "best of" lists are built. Clutch and similar directories, plus local lists. One honest, complete profile beats ten half-finished ones.
Collect reviews that mention specifics. "They answered our Instagram DMs within a minute, in Arabic and English" teaches the assistant far more than "great team".
Publish helpful articles regularly. Each article is one more page where your business is the clear answer to a question. Freshness matters: assistants prefer sources updated in the last few months.
What does not work
Keyword stuffing, hidden text and buying links do nothing for AI assistants and can hurt you with Google. Writing "best agency in Dubai" about yourself ten times does not make an assistant say it; a third-party list or review does. Paid ads are invisible to these tools. And a site that only exists as images or a single long animation gives the assistant nothing to read.
How to check whether it is working
Once a month, ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity the questions your customers ask: "social media agency in Dubai for restaurants", "WhatsApp chatbot provider in the UAE", "marketing agency that works in Lebanon". Note whether you appear, what the assistant says about you, and which sources it cites. If you are missing, look at who is cited instead and which directory or article put them there. That is your next listing to claim or your next article to write.
An example from Dubai
A dental clinic in Dubai had a good website but appeared nowhere in AI answers. The fixes were small: one page per treatment with a plain summary and FAQs, a completed Google Business Profile with the same description, Bing Places claimed, and a request to recent patients for reviews mentioning the treatment they had. Within a couple of months the clinic started appearing in Gemini and ChatGPT answers for its main treatments, because every source the assistants read now told the same story.

FAQ
Does ChatGPT use Google to find businesses?
No. ChatGPT's web search runs on Bing, which is why Bing Places and a site that Bing can crawl matter. Gemini and Google AI Overviews use Google.
How long does it take to appear in AI answers?
For live-search answers, weeks after your pages and listings are complete and indexed. Being part of what the model "knows" without searching takes longer and depends on how widely your business is described online.
Do I need schema markup?
It is not mandatory, but it is the clearest way to state facts such as business type, location, services and FAQs so they are not misread. We add it to every page we build.
Can I pay to be recommended by ChatGPT?
No. There is no advertising inside these answers today. Mentions come from your website, listings, reviews and third-party articles.
Does this work for businesses in Lebanon?
Yes. The same steps apply, with Google Business Profile and local directories for Beirut and clear pages that say which areas you serve.
Will this replace SEO?
No. Most of the work overlaps: the pages, listings and reviews that help you rank on Google are the same ones AI assistants read. GEO adds clarity, consistency and FAQs on top.
