What does social media management include? A clear guide for Dubai businesses

Social media management is the ongoing work of planning, creating, publishing, replying to and reporting on a brand's social media, usually on a monthly cycle. For a business in Dubai that typically means Instagram first, then TikTok and Facebook, plus the WhatsApp conversations that social media starts.
The phrase gets used for everything from "someone posts a photo twice a week" to a full content and growth operation. This guide explains what proper social media management includes, what it should produce for you each month, and how to tell whether an agency or freelancer is offering the real thing.
The seven parts of social media management
1. Strategy
Before anything is posted, someone should decide who the content is for, what the brand should be known for, which platforms matter and what a good month looks like in numbers. In Dubai, that includes decisions about language (English, Arabic or both), tone (a clinic in Jumeirah and a streetwear brand in Al Quoz should not sound the same) and which content pillars repeat every month.
2. Content planning
A monthly calendar that lists every Reel, story, carousel and post, with its purpose: reach new people, build trust with followers, or move someone to book or buy. Good management batches this into one or two shoot days a month so the account never goes quiet during a busy week.
3. Content creation
Filming, photography, editing, captions and design. In practice this is the biggest share of the work. Reels with real people from the business perform best in the UAE; polished stock-style visuals do not. Captions should match how your customers write, including Arabic and English in the same post where that is natural.
4. Publishing
Posting on a fixed schedule, at the times your audience is active, with hashtags, locations, tags and alt text done properly. It sounds trivial, but inconsistent posting is the most common reason accounts stall.
5. Community management and replies
Answering comments and DMs, replying to story mentions, handling complaints before they grow. Many Dubai customers decide in the DMs: "do you deliver to Marina?", "is Saturday available?". If a message waits four hours, the customer has already asked the next business. This is where Instagram DM automation and a 24/7 AI employee fit: instant first replies, with a person stepping in when needed.
6. Growth and paid support
Boosting the content that already works, small targeted campaigns for launches or offers, and collaborations with local creators. Paid social is a separate skill, but in a managed account the two should be planned together.
7. Reporting
A monthly report that shows reach, followers, engagement, profile visits, link clicks and, most importantly, enquiries. The report should explain what changed and what will be done differently next month. A live dashboard you can open any time is better than a PDF that arrives late.
What social media management does not include by default
Website work, SEO, email marketing, influencer contracts, large ad budgets and full video production are usually separate services. Ask what is included before comparing offers; two quotes that look similar may cover very different scopes.
What a good month looks like
Week 1: the calendar is approved and the shoot day is booked.
Week 2: shoot day; content for the month is filmed in batches.
Weeks 2–4: editing, captions and publishing on schedule; every comment and DM answered the same day, or instantly if automation is in place.
End of month: report with numbers, lessons and the plan for next month.
Across a month, a typical managed Instagram account in Dubai sees 12 to 20 feed posts (most of them Reels), stories most days, and every DM answered. The numbers vary by sector; the rhythm does not.
In-house, freelancer or agency?
In-house: best when you have the volume for a full-time person and can give them a phone, a camera and access to the business every day. Risk: one person covering strategy, filming, editing and replies alone.
Freelancer: good for a single platform and a clear brief. Risk: capacity; when they are busy, your account waits.
Agency: strategy, production and replies covered by a team with a process. Ask who will actually work on your account and how fast they reply. Our guide to choosing a social media agency in Dubai lists the questions to ask.
Signs the management is working
Enquiries that mention your content ("I saw your Reel about…"), customers who arrive already knowing what they want, DMs answered within minutes, and a steady rise in profile visits and saves rather than a spike after one viral post. If you only see follower counts in the report, ask for the rest.

FAQ
How many posts a month does social media management include?
Typically 12 to 20 feed posts plus regular stories, but the right number depends on the sector and the content you can produce well. Consistency matters more than volume.
Do I need to be on every platform?
No. In Dubai, Instagram is the base for most consumer brands, TikTok for food, fashion and entertainment, LinkedIn for B2B. Start with one or two and do them properly.
Who creates the content?
In a managed account, the agency plans and produces it on shoot days at your business, with you and your team on camera where possible. You approve the calendar before anything is posted.
Does social media management include replying to messages?
It should. Replies are where enquiries become customers. Ask how quickly messages are answered and whether automation covers nights and weekends.
Can it be in Arabic and English?
Yes. Many Dubai brands post in both. The mix should follow how your customers actually write to you.
How soon will I see results?
Reach and engagement usually move within the first month; enquiries and bookings follow once the content and the replies are consistent, typically in the second or third month.
