Local SEO in Dubai: how to show up on Google Maps and near-me searches

Local SEO in Dubai is the work of making your business appear when someone nearby searches on Google Maps or types "near me": a complete Google Business Profile, a website that names your areas and services, consistent listings and a steady flow of reviews. It is the highest-return search work most Dubai businesses can do, because local searches turn into visits and calls the same day.

This guide explains how Google decides which businesses to show on the map, what to set up, and the mistakes we see most often in Dubai.

How Google ranks local businesses

Google's local results, the map with three businesses under it, are decided by three factors: relevance (does your business match what was searched), distance (how close you are to the searcher or the place they named) and prominence (how well known and well reviewed you are online). You cannot change distance, but relevance and prominence are entirely within your control.

In Dubai the "place named" part matters a lot. People search "dentist Jumeirah", "brunch JLT", "car service Al Quoz", "gym Business Bay". If your website and profile never mention the area, Google has no reason to connect you to it.

Step 1: Google Business Profile, done completely

  1. Claim and verify the profile. Google increasingly asks Dubai businesses for video verification; have the trade licence, signage and the interior ready.

  2. Choose the right primary category. "Marketing agency", "Dental clinic", "Lebanese restaurant". Add secondary categories only if they are true.

  3. Write a description that says what you do and where. Services, areas, languages. No slogans.

  4. Fill in services, hours, phone, website and attributes. Keep the name, phone and address identical to the website.

  5. Add photos regularly. Real photos of the place, the team and the work, not stock images. Profiles with recent photos get more clicks.

  6. Post updates. Offers, new services, Ramadan hours. It signals the business is active.

If you serve customers at their location rather than yours, set the profile up as a service-area business and list the areas (Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi) instead of showing an address.

Step 2: a website that names areas and services

Google reads your website to confirm what the profile claims. The basics: one page per main service with a clear title ("Social media agency in Dubai"), your city and areas mentioned naturally in the text, a contact page with the same phone and email as the profile, and LocalBusiness or ProfessionalService schema that states the business type, location and opening hours in a format Google trusts.

If you have several locations or serve several areas, a short page per area beats cramming every area into one page. The same applies to a business that works in both Dubai and Lebanon: a dedicated page for each market, like our Lebanon page, tells Google and AI assistants exactly where you operate.

Step 3: consistent listings (citations)

Google checks that your name, address and phone number match across the web. Claim and align: Bing Places (which also feeds ChatGPT search), Apple Maps, Facebook and Instagram, LinkedIn, and the Dubai directories relevant to your sector (Zomato and Talabat for restaurants, Property Finder and Bayut for real estate, Clutch and Sortlist for agencies). A wrong old phone number on one directory is a common, invisible drag on rankings.

Step 4: reviews, steadily

Reviews are the biggest prominence signal and the thing customers read before they call. The goal is a steady flow, not a burst: ask every happy customer, make it easy with a direct review link or a QR code at the counter, and reply to every review, including the bad ones, politely and quickly. Reviews that mention the service and the area ("best hair colour in JLT") help relevance too. Never buy reviews; Google removes them and can suspend the profile.

Step 5: content that answers local questions

Articles and FAQs that answer what people in Dubai actually search: "Is it allowed to…", "How much notice do I need for…", "Do you deliver to…". Each is a page where your business is the answer, and each feeds the AI assistants that now sit on top of Google and Bing. Our guide on getting mentioned by ChatGPT and Gemini explains that side.

Common local SEO mistakes in Dubai

  • Keyword-stuffed business names. "Best Dental Clinic Dubai Jumeirah Marina" as the profile name breaks Google's rules and risks suspension. Use the real name.

  • A P.O. box or a virtual office as the address. Google wants a real place customers can visit, or a service-area setup.

  • Different phone numbers everywhere. WhatsApp number on Instagram, landline on Google, mobile on the website. Pick one main number.

  • No Arabic at all. Many local searches are in Arabic. Arabic in the description, services and a few posts helps.

  • Ignoring Bing and Apple Maps. iPhone users and ChatGPT search both rely on them.

  • Setting it up once and forgetting it. Hours that are wrong during Ramadan or holidays cost real customers.

What to expect

Profile completeness and listing fixes show results within weeks. Reviews and content compound over months. A business that does all five steps usually moves from invisible to the map pack for its main area-plus-service searches within a few months, and the leads from "near me" searches tend to be the most ready to buy.

FAQ

Do I need a physical address in Dubai for Google Business Profile?

If customers visit you, yes, a real address. If you go to them, you can hide the address and list service areas instead.

How long does Google verification take in the UAE?

Usually a few days once the video or postcard step is done; it can take longer if Google asks for more documents.

Should my Google profile be in Arabic or English?

Primarily in the language most of your customers search in, with the other language included in the description and posts. Many Dubai businesses do both.

How many reviews do I need?

There is no fixed number. A steady flow of recent, specific reviews beats a large old total. Competitors in your area set the bar.

Does local SEO help with ChatGPT and Gemini?

Yes. Gemini reads Google Business Profile directly, and ChatGPT search reads Bing Places and your site. The same setup serves both.

Can I do local SEO for Lebanon too?

Yes. The steps are the same with Google Business Profile for Beirut and the local directories that matter there.
